OTHERS

Posters, postcards, outdoor advertising and the lot.

Some I did pro bono.

Others I did for cultural events.

Feels like working for the same rewards.

LA TRAVIATA

By the initiative of Sofia Opera and Ballet,

a closed contest was organized –

a poster for their new staging

of Verdi’s La Traviata.

They had been dissatisfied

with their advertising agency.

I opted for the simplest idea thrown in the pile:

a blood-stained withered camellia.

Dimitar Traychev, Iskra Kuleshova and Aleksandar Georgiev were the other contestants.

A total of nine projects.

All were rejected because

all had been obviously made

by professional artists and

did not reflect the heroine’s tragedy.

NEW BULGARIAN TYPOGRAPHY

A project curated by Kiril Zlatkov.

A couple of local graphic designers

and I were invited to produce some posters

for the exhibition. The others from the team

had already developed a string of own fonts.

I was typography-ignorant.

What the heck am I doing here?

In such situations we resort to exploitation

of child labour. Three kids aged 3 – 5 – 7

drew pictures and cut out letters all day long.

Thus, with their help, my poster was materialized.

It represents the most recent Bulgarian typography.

The one that is yet to happen.

CHRISTMAS CARD 2013

Drum roll, please!

I have made a Christmas card.

Night-time, sputtered graphite,

room heated in warm colours (my living-room),

focused cold light (flashlight) and macro mode.

The result – cold light

and warm flaming shadow.

The Christmas-tree texture

resembles real pine needles.

Ya-ya and friends (music BG)

4ROOMS (cinema USA)

PEOPLE FROM OZ (theatre BG)

curated by Kiril Zlatkov,

in One Design Week.

A triptych of brief forceful titles,

small grey people and just a hint of colour.

Halftone, transparencies, multiply.

Everyone who is familiar

with one title at least will understand, I hope,

why that title has been included.

Thanks for the chance to work

with them and to showcase my work.

AVISTA

A design of logotype and corporate identity.

This is an old-rooted company dealing

in landscape design. Has not updated its vision

since incorporation date in the early 1980’s.

It was mostly a self-briefed assignment.

Research on the trees they work with.

I produced versions with trees and leaves for them.

The client insisted that the logo should resemble

a landscape design.

Our relationship was short-lived.

GRISHO

Unrealized project for a vision on vinyl.

The assignment was fun.

A small digression from the musicians’ crowd.
